A-SMYLE - American Serbia & Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange

A-SMYLE - American Serbia & Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange

A-SMYLE - American Serbia & Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange is a program which allows high school students from Serbia and Montenegro to study in the United States for an academic year while living with an American family. Through this exchange series, 255 high school students from all over Serbia and Montenegro were chosen to travel to the United States in the three academic years since the program's commencement (Spring 2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, and 2008-2009).

Students from Serbia and Montenegro, aged 15-17, have the opportunity to explore youth leadership, civic responsibility, community activism, democracy, and American society, as well as educate Americans about their country and culture. Students take part in leadership development activities, civic education, and community service during the U.S. program.

Funded by the Department of State, on behalf of the American people, under the Support for Eastern European Democracy (SEED) act, A-SMYLE is administered by American Councils in both Serbia and Montenegro, working in cooperation with Fractal NGO in Belgrade.

Students from throughout Serbia and Montenegro are selected by an independent panel of American professionals in education and international relations on the basis of merit demonstrated in the application materials.

The competition for 2009/2010 school year is open. If you want to apply for this program or learn more about it, please visit the website of the American Councils for International Cooperation: http://www.ac-see.org/programs/hs-citiesdates.htm
