U.S. Cultural Envoy Conducts a Series of Workshops on Creative Writing in the Multi-Ethnic Southern Serbian Community

During her short visit to the south of Serbia, Prof. Merrilee Cunningham, an accomplished poet and experienced creative writing teacher from Houston, Texas, conducted creative writing workshops for schoolchildren and teachers at the American Corners in Vranje and Bujanovac. More than fifty children and ten teachers were engaged in the pleasure and power of reading and writing. Her weekend stay in the capital city of Belgrade was also used for a workshop organized at the central children's library and a roundtable with a group of university professors, local award-winning writers, English teachers, and students. A lunch hosted by the Embassy was followed by an invitation to the writing studio of one of the Serbian most renowned and widely translated contemporary authors¸ Zoran Zivkovic, who teaches Creative Writing at Belgrade University, and who pledged to establish a long-lasting relationship with the guest.

Americki kulturni izaslanik vodi radionice kreativnog pisanja u multinacionalnim sredinama na jugu srbije

Tokom svoje kratke posete jugu Srbije, prof. Merili Kaningham, priznata pesnikinja i iskusni profesor kreativnog pisanja iz Hjustona, država Teksas, održala je radionice kreativnog pisanja za školsku decu i nastavnike u Američkim kucima u Vranju i Bujanovcu. Više od pedesetoro dece i deset nastavnika učestvovalo je sa radošću i energijom u časovima čitanja i pisanja. Za vreme njenog boravka u prestonici tokom vikenda organizovana je radionica u gradskoj dečijoj biblioteci, kao i okrugli sto sa predstavnicima univerzitetskih profesora, priznatih lokalnih pisaca, nastavnika engleskog i studenata. Nakon ručka koji je priredila Ambasada usledio je poziv za posetu ataljeu za pisanje jednog od najuglednijih i najprevodjenijih savremenih pisaca Srbije, Zorana Živkovića. Prof. Živković, koji predaje Kreativno pisanje na beogradskom univerzitetu, izrazio je veliko interesovanje za uspostavljanjem dugoročne saradnje sa gošćom iz Amerike.
