U.S. Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Officials Meet with the Kovacevic Family

Representatives from the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia met jointly with the parents of Miladin Kovacevic family and their attorney on July 6th at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Belgrade.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current situation regarding the flight of Miladin Kovacevic, who has been charged with assault in the State of New York and to answer questions from the family regarding the U.S. judicial process and the ramifications for Mr. Kovacevic of his flight from the U.S.

The United States has not formally requested extradition at this time. We sincerely believe that it is in the best interests of Mr. Kovacevic to return voluntarily to the U.S., rather than to remain a fugitive.

The meeting was constructive and the Kovacevic family and counsel were receptive to the points raised in the discussion.

While we work with the Kovacevic family and the Serbian authorities to resolve this matter, the Embassy remains ever mindful of the critical condition of Bryan Steinhauer, and the pain and suffering caused to his family.

Sastanak predstavnika Ambasade SAD i Ministarstva spoljnih poslova Srbije sa porodicom Kovačević

Predstavnici američke ambasade i i Ministarstva spoljnih poslova Srbije sastali su se sa porodicom Kovačevic i njihovim advokatom 6. jula u zgradi Ministarstva spoljnih poslova u Beogradu.

Cill sastanka, održanim povodom situacije nastale nakon bekstva Miladina Kovačevića koji je optužen za napad u državi Nju Jork, bio je da se razjasne nedoumice članova porodice o sudskim procesima u SAD i posledicama po gospodina Kovačevića nakon bekstva iz SAD.

U ovom trenutku Sjedinjene Države nisu zvanično zatražila ekstradiciju. Iskreno verujemo da je u interesu gospodina Kovačevića da se dobrovoljno vrati u SAD a da mu nije u interesu da ostane u statusu begunca.

Sastanak je bio konstruktivan i porodica Kovačević i advokat su razumeli detalje iznete tokom diskusije.

Dok sa porodicom Kovačević i srpskim vlastima radimo na razrešenju ove situacije, u isto vreme sa pažnjom pratimo kritično stanje Brajana Štajnhauera i patnje kroz koje prolazi njegova porodica.
