U.S. Embassy Supports International Conference on Ethics in Science and Culture

The U.S. Embassy is supporting the International Conference on Ethics in Science and Culture, which will take place at the Belgrade Faculty of Philology, September 25 and 26.

More than two hundred participants from eight countries are expected at the Conference organized by the University of Belgrade and the Ministry of Science and supported by several other local and international institutions. Over thirty papers will be presented on topics such as the free access to information, intellectual property, copyright, digital Initiatives, and the role of libraries in open access scientific research.

Director of the Institute for Information Policy Research Elisabeth Buchanan, who is also a university professor and the author of numerous scientific works on information policy and ethics in research, will present her research at the conference. Brian Rosenblum, Scholarly Digital Initiatives Librarian at the University of Kansas and specialist in open access to research information, will also take part in the conference and will deliver a series of lectures throughout Serbia over the following seven days.

The free flow of information and access to knowledge sources represent a cornerstone of democracy and progress. The Conference is expected to increase the awareness of the ethical issues related to the access and use of information. It will also promote ethical guidelines in modern science and culture, which are marked by new information technology.

Ambasada SAD podržava međunarodnu konferenciju “Etika u nauci i kulturi”

Američka ambasada podržava međunarodnu konferenciju “Etika u nauci i kulturi” koja će se održati u Beogradu na Filološkom fakultetu 25. i 26. septembra.

Očekuje se oko dvesta učesnika iz osam zemalja na konferenciji koju organizuju Univerzitet u Beogradu i Ministarstvo nauke uz podršku nekoliko domaćih i međunarodnih institucija. Biće predstavljeno preko trideset radova na teme kao što su slobodan pristup informacijama, intelektualna svojina, autorsko pravo, digitalizacija, uloga biblioteka u otvorenom pristupu naučno-istraživačkom radu.

Elizabet Bjukenen, direktor Instituta za istraživanje upravljanja informacijama i univerzitetski profesor i autor brojnih stručnih radova iz oblasti upravljanja informacijama i etike u istraživanju, predstaviće svoj rad na konferenciji. Stručnjak za digitalizaciju naučnih radova i otvoreni pristup informacijama Brajan Rozenblam sa Kanzas univerziteta će takođe učestvovati na konferenciji i održati seriju predavanja u Srbiji tokom sledećih nedelju dana.

Slobodan protok informacija i pristup izvorima znanja predstavljaju temelj demokratije i napretka. Očekuje se da će konferencija doprineti podizanju svesti o etičkim pitanjima kod pristupa informacijama i njihovom korišćenju. Ona će takođe promovisati etička načela u savremenoj nauci i kulturi, koje se baziraju na novim informacionim tehnologijama.
