Charge Jennifer Brush Visits Kraljevo and Studenica Monastery
U.S. Embassy Helps Restore Studenica Frescoes
On October 7-8, 2009, Charge d’affaires ad interim Jennifer Brush will visit Kraljevo and Studenica Monastery.
On October 7, Charge Brush will address the Kraljevo City Assembly on Kraljevo City Day. She will participate in a ribbon-cutting at the Agricultural-Chemical School “Dr. Djordje Radic” to mark the $20,000 donation from USAID to help equip a newly-built department of bakery on the school’s premises. She will also visit the Kraljevo Offices of Philanthropy to see the English language classrooms funded through the Embassy’s English Language Programs fund and visit the Amiga factory.
On October 8, the Charge will visit Studenica Monastery to celebrate the close of the grant between the U.S. Embassy and the Serbian Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments. The grant, in the amount of $33,850, was for the cleaning, reconstruction, protection, and conservation of the 13th century wall paintings in the church of the Holy Virgin in Studenica. The funding for this project was provided by the Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation established by Congress in 2001. The Fund helps countries around the globe preserve historic sites and manuscripts, museum collections, and traditional forms of music, dance, and language. The American Embassy in Belgrade views this project as a sign of the American people's respect for Serbian cultural heritage and of the strong ties between the Serbian and American peoples.
The Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation has to date helped fund four projects in Serbia: $31,200 to help preserve the Roman amphitheater at the Viminacium Archaeological Site; restoration of the elementary school or mekhteb adjoining the “Altun Alem” Mosque in Novi Pazar ($50,000 in 2006); renovation of facade of the Memorial School in Orasac ($24,450 in 2005) and reconstruction of the Rakovica Monastery's roof ($17,000 in 2001.)

Fond pomaže zemljama širom sveta da sačuvaju svoje istorijske znamenitosti i dokumenta, muzejske kolekcije i tradicionalne forme muzike, igre i jezika.
