U.S. Government Launches the Second Competition of the Democracy Video Challenge

On Tuesday, October 27th, 2009, at the Faculty of Applied Arts, U.S. Embassy Cultural Attaché, Susan Delja, will announce the competition Democracy Video Challenge for 2010, and present the certificate to the 2009 finalist, Vid Rajin, a student of the faculty.

The first cycle of the international competition Democracy Video Challenge for 2009, ended in July this year. Over 900 videos were submitted from 95 countries worldwide. A jury of experts selected the finalists, and more than 47,000 people participated in a public online vote to choose the winning videos. Vid Rajin, student of the Faculty of Applied Arts, was rated among the finalists for Europe with his video “Democracy is to Choose”. The video is available on Youtube, and will be played during tomorrow’s event.

The Democracy Video Challenge is sponsored by the State Department and its partners: democracy and youth organizations, the film industry and academia. Its goal is to engage youth in an online discussion on democracy through the creation of short videos (up to three minutes), completing the phrase “Democracy is…” and through social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter. The authors of the winning videos will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C., New York and Los Angeles, where the videos will be screened at gala events. The deadline for video submissions is January 15, 2010.

The U.S. Government remains committed to promoting the values of the democracy and encouraging young people to continue the dialogue about its importance.

Vlada SAD objavila drugi međunarodni konkurs kratke video forme „Demokratija – video izazov“
